Photofacial / IPL
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one of our most popular treatments at Roseville Dermatology. It is a non-invasive procedure that uses light energy to treat both broken capillaries and brown spots (freckles, age spots, liver spots). IPL can also reduce redness and flushing from rosacea.
The beauty of this procedure is that there is minimal to no "down time.” IPL is the perfect "starting point" for those who wish to dramatically improve the appearance of their skin but are not ready for a major procedure.
How does an IPL treatment work?
The IPL system emits precise intense light that specifically targets brown spots and blood vessels, heating these unwanted lesions and "shocking" them into releasing their pigment. Patients have described the sensation as a "rubber band snap.” Immediately, the brown spots will darken but will slough off in a few days. Blood vessels will progressively fade with each treatment. The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes and patients leave our office with a reddened appearance, which typically resolves after a few hours.
Who is a good candidate for IPL?
The best candidates for IPL are those with lighter skin tones who desire improvement from broken capillaries, sunspots, freckles, and uneven skin tones. Basically, anyone over the age of 30! Common areas of treatments are the face, neck, chest, arms and hands.
How many treatments will I need?
We recommend 1-3 treatments depending on the amount of sun-damage, brown spots and the size of the broken blood vessels. Even after one treatment, most patients will see visible improvements in their skin irregularities.
